NMBI OPENS PORTAL FOR ANNUAL REGISTRATION RENEWAL FOR 2025

The annual renewal window is currently open and will remain so until 31 January 2025. To ensure uninterrupted practice, nurses and midwives are encouraged to renew their registration promptly through the MyNMBI online portal. As dedicated healthcare professionals, maintaining your registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) is essential. it’s a legal obligation under the Nurses and Midwives Act 2011. Failure to renew can lead to removal from the Register, impacting your ability to practice legally in Ireland. Notifications of removals are also sent to employers, the Minister for Health, and the Health Service Executive

Step-by-Step Renewal Process

  1. Click on or open this link.
  2. Select the button Already have an Account.
  3. Please do not create a new account as it will not connect to your existing record. You will not be able to renew your registration through a new account.
  4. Please use your email address to login, together with your password.
  5. If you have forgotten your password, please click on the Forgotten Password link under the password box. You will be required to enter your email address (that you received this notice to) and you will receive an email with a link to reset your password. Your new password will be active at subsequent logins.
  6. Please click on the Annual Renewal button to renew online.
  7. You will be requested to confirm your personal details and enter your employment details. Please ensure that all your details are up to date, including contact information (address, email address and phone number) and employment details. This is a legal requirement under Section 53 of the Nurses and Midwives Act 2011, as amended. 
  8. You will then be brought to a payment screen where you will be required to give contact details. If you are not using your own card, the details you enter here must be those of the cardholder as this is required for bank verification (EU directive requirement). Pay your annual renewal of €100 using your chosen card. Please note that debit/credit card details are not retained by the NMBI.  
  9. You can download your annual retention certificate from the My Documents section. On some occasions, it may take up to 60 minutes to generate your retention certificate. You can login again at any stage to download your certificate.

While MyNMBI is mobile-enabled, for the best user experience, we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer to complete the renewal process. Be aware that peak usage times, typically between 6 to 7 pm, may result in slower processing. If you encounter delays, consider logging out and returning to the portal at a later time

When contacting the NMBI, please provide your name, Personal Identification Number (PIN), and date of birth to facilitate efficient assistance

Voluntary Removal from the Register

You can voluntarily remove your name from the Register of Nurses and Midwives on MyNMBI. This service is free of charge and will be available during the renewal period. You must select every division you are registered in to remove your name entirely from the Register. Should you choose this option you can restore your name to the Register at any time by selecting the Restoration option on the MyNMBI portal.

Consequences of Non-Renewal

Failing to renew your registration by the deadline will result in removal from the Register. This action is in accordance with Section 77 of the Nurses and Midwives Act 2011. Notifications of removals are sent to employers, the Minister for Health, and the Health Service Executive. To restore your name to the Register after removal for non-payment, a restoration fee of €250, plus the annual renewal fee, will be required.
