Sligo/Leitrim Disability Services operates a model of community living and we currently have over 30 community group homes in areas throughout Sligo and Leitrim. This is expected to increase in line with the National Policy for Decongregation and Community Integration.
The supplementary panel formed through this campaign will fill vacancies at Staff Nurse Disability Services across Sligo / Leitrim Disability Services.
Sligo/Leitrim Disability Services provides a wide range of health and personal social services to adults with disabilities. Services delivered through the model of health and social care include the following:
- Residential placements
- Day Services
- Respite bed nights
The role of the Staff Nurse in Disability Services is to provide holistic, person-centred nursing care, promoting optimum independence, enhancing the quality of life for service users with intellectual, physical or sensory disability in all aspects of daily living.
On occasion, the Staff Nurse may be expected to take responsibility for a unit or community facility in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager. S/he must practice in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct as set out by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and within the policies, guidelines, protocols of the units / settings in which they are employed.
Eligibility Criteria
Be registered in the General/ Intellectual Disability/Psychiatric Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered
And
Have the clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role
Note: Post holders must maintain annual registration with Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland)
Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character
Age
Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65.
